Artist's Statement

Daniel is a photographer from Deltona, Florida. Originally a Computer Science Major from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, Daniel came to photography after a ten year career in the software development industry. Fueled with an in depth knowledge of computers and a love for the outdoors, Digital Photography came natural to him. Out of that passion come his color fine-art photographs, which range in subject matter from land and water-scapes to architectural and pattern studies.

Daniel photographs scenes using professional quality digital cameras. Once the photographs are ready for processing, digital darkroom techniques are used to manipulate the image to correct any color, brightness, or saturation issues. The techniques used in editing are available to any person working in a traditional film darkroom. No additional editing or manipulation is done to the image other than simple cropping to the subject. Each piece is printed using traditional Chromogenic or Giclee processes, yielding a high-quality, archival piece, then matted using 100% acid-free rag board, and framed under UV Glass in high-quality hardwood frames.

In addition to his main body of work, Daniel also hand-colors selected pieces based on the type of subject and color range in the original piece. Pieces are first converted to Black and White, and then portions of those are digitally restored to their original color. This enables those pieces to have highly focused subject, both in composition as well as color.

How Daniel Came To Photography

My love for photography began at a time when I was searching for something new in life. Not looking to change professions or beliefs, I desired to change the way I lived life as a whole. The core of who I am was not shifting, just how I experienced life.

For years I enjoyed the outdoors through exciting adventures. I treasured sitting on the highest of heights, finding beauty in the depths of a canyon, seeing the extraordinary in little things, and looking in new ways at things that were mundane to the rest of society. I was amazed at the immense number of wonder-full things that people missed in their rush and bustle of life.

One summer I took a week and a half long hike along the Appalachian Trail. During the trip, I saw many amazing sights, just as I had in numerous hikes before, but this hike began to birth something new in me. I dreamed again of thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail, and God began to work that dream out in my life. I started training by hiking regularly at First Landing State Park, and I prepared to leave my job in order to commit to the goal of completing the trail. In the process of establishing that goal in my life, God prepared me to transition from the computer field, which I had been working in, to a new passion of mine, photography.

From that time on, I made my mission to pursue those awesome moments, ones that leave people awestruck, capturing things that are small in stature and yet great in beauty, and finding those that are overlooked and unseen. I desire to see the fullness of the beauty of God's creation, and share that with the world.
